The Hong Kong Society of Gut Microbiome held a gut health seminar at Healthy Square in Tsim Sha Tsui. The President of HKSGM, Dr. Loo King Fan Steven, and the Vice President, Prof. Tsui Kwok Wing Stephen from Faculty of Medicine of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, explained how to relieve eczema symptoms and introduced the gut-brain axis, as well as the relationship between gut microbiota and metabolism, obesity, emotions, and brain health.
There is increasing public interest in supplementing with probiotics for gut health, but how do you choose an effective probiotic supplement? Professor Chan pointed out that each person’s gut microbiome is unique, like a fingerprint, so the same probiotic product may have different effects on different people. He emphasized the importance of gut microbiome testing because only by understanding one’s own gut microbiome fingerprint through testing can one supplement with probiotics in a targeted way. Whether the probiotics are effective in improving gut health can also be determined through testing.
In addition, the public can also pay attention to the active probiotic content in the product and whether there are any additives that affect the probiotics. Adding prebiotics and postbiotics can also enhance the effect of probiotics.
